HURRICANE SEASON AND OTHER
EMERGENCIES PREPAREDNESS
2025

Context
Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the most disaster-prone regions in the world, with over 190 million people affected between 2000 and 2024 and average annual economic losses of $58 billion. Climate change has intensified these events, especially during hurricane season, which poses a significant risk. Despite this, investment in preparedness remains low, with less than 1% of public budgets allocated to prevention. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and its National Societies promote a comprehensive and inclusive response, focused on planning, early warning, and community resilience, reaffirming their commitment to risk reduction and the protection of the most vulnerable communities.
